Improve Google Shopping match rates
The Merchant Center API connection allows Omnia to collect relevant product information that can help to identify product matches at Google Shopping. This includes the product name, brand, product URL and other product characteristics.
Using the Merchant Center API will make sure that the information Omnia has is exactly the same as is being advertised on Google, improving our chances to identify the right products, while also lowering the effort to provide all this data.
How to add the Merchant Center API connection:
- Add the Omnia service account as a user to your Merchant Center account:
- Go to your Merchant Center account.
- Go to Account Access in the settings of your Merchant Center account.
- Click + Add user and use the service account ID as the email address for the new user. Service account ID:
merchantcenter@omniaretail.iam.gserviceaccount.com - Provide Standard Access for the service account and set email preferences to no emails
- Click Add user to save preferences and be returned to the list of users. The service account ID should be listed with the chosen user role.
- Provide the Merchant Center ID to your Omnia contact person.
NOTE: If you have multiple Sub-accounts, make sure that you first select the Sub account that corresponds to the specific Omnia portal. Copy the merchant center ID that shows up when you selected the Sub account.
Frequently asked questions
Will you modify any data in our Merchant center, or only read data?
We only read data from your Merchant Center account and will not write or modify any data within your merchant center.
What kind of access level will Omnia need?
Omnia will need the Standard access level. This is needed to query all product characteristics that would help us identify the right products for our Google Shopping matching service.
More information on access levels is available at the Google Help Center: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/12160472?hl=en#accesstypes
To what data will Omnia have access?
With the Standard access level Omnia can query all fields that are available in the Google Shopping API. We do only query information about the product characteristics. We do not query any personal information about customer profiles. See more details on which fields we use below.
Which data fields will Omnia process?
We use the Google Shopping API to access this information.
We use the “products.list” query that provides information about the products. See details here:
https://developers.google.com/shopping-content/reference/rest/v2.1/products#Product
We currently use a small subset of these product characteristics to identify the right products. This includes: title (product name), link (product URL), brand, gtin, targetcountry. We can expand this further to other product characteristics if more information is needed to identify the right product. For example: color, size, mpn, price or any other product dimension.
This view does not include any information about customer profiles or other GDPR related information.
There can be potential extensions to the query, to fulfill other valuable use cases for our customers. We will only add this after opt-in from our customers. Potential use cases:
- Price competitive parameters, which will help you as customer set the right prices with Omnia dynamic pricing tooling: https://developers.google.com/shopping-content/guides/reports/fields#pricecompetitivenessproductview
- Product performance metrics, which will help you identify top products and allow you to use conversion rates to optimize your pricing. https://developers.google.com/shopping-content/guides/reports/metrics
